Explore historic lanes by day and let festive lights lead the evening. Give Edinburgh three unhurried days to enjoy the Old Town, cultural stops, and seasonal city-centre celebrations.

Your three-day itinerary

Day one: stroll through the Old Town and along the Royal Mile, then explore the festive centre. Day two: book a castle visit if it interests you, followed by a museum or gallery and an early dinner. Day three: explore the New Town and enjoy a final café stop. Choose viewpoints only when weather, daylight, and underfoot conditions make them sensible.

Keep the day comfortable

Wind and rain can change the feel of a winter walk quickly. Bring waterproof layers and shoes with dependable grip, and keep an indoor option near each outdoor plan. Central accommodation makes warming breaks easier. Reserve popular meals and ticketed attractions once your dates are fixed.

Plan for Christmas 2026

Forever Edinburgh lists Edinburgh’s Christmas from 14 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. Individual attractions may keep different hours or require tickets. If you stay through New Year, Hogmanay has its own programme and booking arrangements. Confirm transport and restaurant availability, especially on 25 December.
