Pair sparkling evening walks with coffeehouse afternoons and a little imperial grandeur. Vienna makes a rewarding four-day festive break when you balance outdoor markets with warm indoor stops.

Your four-day itinerary

Day one: explore the streets around St Stephen’s Cathedral and finish with an evening walk. Day two: choose an art collection or imperial interior, then visit the Rathaus area. Day three: reserve time for Schönbrunn and check its seasonal programme. Day four: linger over coffee and cake before travelling home.

Find your winter rhythm

Choose two or three markets rather than racing between every venue. Start with an indoor attraction, enjoy the daylight outside, and return to festive streets after dusk. Use public transport for longer journeys. Accommodation near a useful transport stop can be more practical than the most central address.

Plan for Christmas 2026

Vienna’s tourism board lists 2026 market information, but each venue has its own dates. Check arrangements for 24–26 December, book holiday meals ahead, and verify attraction opening hours. Budget separately for food, transport, shopping and performances. For concerts, confirm the venue and programme before paying.
